ATLANTA – Circular Solutions Advisors (CSA) will be at the 2024 Mitsubishi Electric Classic presented by Vensure, working to ensure all recyclable plastic bottles and aluminum cans collected at the event are upcycled into new beverage containers. The event, April 22-28 at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Ga., will have a special focus on certified closed loop recycling for the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2013.

The tournament is collaborating with Coca-Cola United and Waste Eliminators to implement best practices and empower fans to ensure all beverage bottles and cans collected at the venues will be recycled and remade into new food-grade packaging.

“We are implementing best-in-class recycling infrastructure and partnering with materials recovery facilities (MRFs) like Waste Eliminators in the Atlanta area to maximize the collection and recycling of materials, driving a circular economy,” explained JT Marburger, CSA CEO. “The result will be reduced environmental impact, helping to create a more sustainable event for all.

”More than 25,000 thirsty players and spectators are expected to attend various events scheduled throughout tournament week , with nearly 150 custom recycling bins placed around the venue.  “The future of tournaments like the Mitsubishi Electric Classic presented by Vensure depends on care for the environment to ensure golf can continue to thrive for generations to come,” said Ashley Hamilton, Sr. tournament director.

“In addition to critical recycling efforts, TPC Sugarloaf has recently converted 30+ acres of pine straw areas to Fescue, which requires fewer chemicals to maintain, better stabilizes the soil and reduced erosion.”  The event will also use digital tickets and spectator guides as well as reusable signage to further reduce waste. In addition, the tournament has been working to source items made with sustainable materials and packaging.  “All of the drink packaging at the tournament is designed to be 100 percent recyclable, which helps reduce both waste and carbon emissions,” explained Tammy Stubbs, Coca Cola United corporate director of sustainability. “In fact, our 20-ounce bottled beverage bottles are made with 100 percent recycled plastic and can be recycled and made into new bottles again and again.”

On Earth Day, April 22, the tournament will host Executive Women’s Day brought to you by Northside Hospital. The theme of this year’s professional development session is “Cultivating a Lasting Legacy.” CSA Chief Operating Officer Christi McGee will host a keynote conversation with Okabashi Brands Board Member and former CEO, Sara Irvani. Based in Buford, Ga., Okabashi has been making shoes with 100 percent recycled materials since 1984.
